چکیده

Amajor issue in space-time adaptive processing (STAP) for airborne moving target indicator (MTI) radar is the so-called sample support problem. Often, the available sample support for estimating the interference covariance matrix leads to severe rank de ciency, thereby precluding STAP beamforming based on the direct sample matrix inversion (SMI) method. The intrinsic interference subspace removal (ISR) technique, which is a computationally useful form of diagonally loaded SMI method, can handle this case, although the performance is poor in low sample situations. In this context, new subarray-subpulse schemes using forward and backward data vectors are introduced to overcome the data deciency problem. It is shown here that multiplicative improvement in data samples can be obtained at the expense of negligible loss in space-time aperture of the steering vector.

Particle rejuvenation of Rao-Blackwellized sequential Monte Carlo smoothers for conditionally linear and Gaussian models

This paper focuses on sequential Monte Carlo approximations of smoothing distributions in conditionally linear and Gaussian state spaces. To reduce Monte Carlo variance of smoothers, it is typical in these models to use Rao-Blackwellization: particle approximation is used to sample sequences of hidden regimes while the Gaussian states are explicitly integrated conditional on the sequence of reg...

Space-time Adaptive Processing (stap) for Low Sample Support Applications

Airborne radar Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) in a heterogeneous, target-rich environment is addressed. An efficient Kalman Filter implementation of the normalized form of the Parametric Adaptive Matched Filter (NPAMF) is introduced and shown to perform well against a detailed simulation of a site-specific, dense-target environment, Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) scenario. The nu...

The Fixed-Interval Smoothing Problem for Continuous Systems

The smoothing problem for continuous systems is treated in a state space representation by means of variational calculus techniques. The smoothing problem is introduced in an criterion by means of an artificial discontinuity that splits the problem in term of forward and backward filtering problems. Hence, the smoother design is realized in three steps. First, a forward filter is developed. Sec...

Forward/backward spatial smoothing techniques for coherent signal identification

In the context of coherent signal classification, a spatial smoothing scheme first suggested by Evans et al., and subsequently studied by Shan et al., is further investigated. It is proved here that by making use of a set of forward and complex conjugated backward subarrays simultaneously, it is always possible to estimate any K directions of arrival using at most 3 K / 2 sensor elements. This ...

The Effect of Missing Elements on the Performance of D3LS STAP Approach using Real Antenna Elements

Space Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) applied on signal received from different configurations of real elements using D3LS (Direct Data Domain Least Squares). We will discuss the impact of each typical element-missing on the performance of this approach and the precision of the estimated strength of the SOI. We are interested in five different antenna configurations which are uniform linear equ...
